About the Institute

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

(Al-Wasatiyyah) The Moderation International Quran Institute was established in 2008 with the main aim to graduate students who will become Qualified female Quran teachers in the West upon the correct understanding of the Islamic creed and methodology; teaching the Quran to their families and communities hence filling the shortage of knowledgable and skilled female Quran teachers residing in non Arabic countries.

The Institution provides 1 to 5 year online courses in Quran recitation and memorisation for non-native Arabic speakers and Arab Muslim Women residing in western countries.

The Institute facilitates for female students to learn the Quran from qualified teachers from Arab countries without having to travel, by using the most advanced online teaching technology software, integrated into a web based educational system.

The Institute has written a structured thorough Quran curriculum for all levels starting from beginner to Intermediate progressing to advance teacher level, all based on prior research in the field of science of Tajweed and from the years of experience of the Institute teaching the Noble Quran.

The other factors that distinguish the Institute other than what was mentioned above is that we are capable of providing advanced levelled knowledge in the science of Quran recitation and memorisation as-well as teacher training. At the end of the memorisation Quran course the Institute issues recognised authentic certificates (Ijaazah Sanad in Hafs upon Aasim) to the student who has completed the long term course successfully. This authentic chain of narration is widely recognised by the people of Islamic Knowledge and it is what has ensured from the time of revelation that the Quran has reached to us without one word being changed. It is a record of the unbroken chain of the names of the esteemed people who transmitted the Quran from one to another, and which can be traced back person to person until it reaches the companions and then upon the Prophet -Peace be upon Him- who learnt it from the noble Angel Jibreel and then finally from the Lord of the Heavens and Earth, Allaah. Reaching this level will qualify students to teach and verify the correct reading of the Noble Qur'aan. After the completion of the recitation of Hafs upon Aasim the student can progress onto a next recitation from the ten recitations of the Quran.

The students at the Institute are important to us and we care about their Quran educational progress. We promise to try our best to give them the support and help to excel in this field of knowledge with one goal to serve the Quran by achieving the vision of the Institute.

May our Lord accept from us our actions and grant us sincerity and aid us in achieving the Institute's goal.

Reference for the Moderation Quran Institute & Founder, from the Islamic Scholar of Egypt -89 Years old-: Shaikh Hasan Abdul Wahab Marzooq Al-Banna -’May Allah preserve him-

“In the name of Allah, the Most beneficial, the Most Merciful All Praise be to Allah and may His blessings and peace be upon the chosen messenger of Allah.

To proceed,

Indeed the most truthful speech is the book of Allah the Most High, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad Peace be upon Him and the most evil of affairs is the innovated and every innovation (In the religion) is a darkness and every darkness is in the hell fire.

Then to proceed,

The noble Muslim daughter Asma Bouhaddou, Moroccan national, and her kunya is Ummu Salmaan may Allah bless her, has opened by the help of Allah the Most High “Al-Wasatiyyah Women’s Institute” for the teachings of the noble Quran, Arabic language and the studies in it is by distance learning i.e.: via the internet.

And I would like to clarify in brief about the word ‘Al-Wasatiyyah’ which with the mentioned Institute was attributed with, taken from the noble verse which is the saying of the Most High:

“Thus we have made you (true Muslims real believers of Islamic Monotheism, true followers of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon Him and his Sunnah (legal ways), a just nation, that you will be a witness over mankind”..... Verse: (Al-Baqarah: 143)

So Al-Wasatiyyah (meaning: the middle path) is from the distinguishing features of the Islamic nation which took their guidance from the Quran and Sunnah with the understanding of the nation of the pious predecessors (Salaf) so in its guidance it gathers between the happiness of the world and the joy of the hereafter without adversity and without any darkened tribulations.

As in regards to the Islamic student of knowledge she attending to me at Tawheed Mosque at new Egypt in Cairo; lessons in the explanation of the Quran and explanation of Hadeeths of Imaam Al-Bukhari and numerous Islamic Aqeedah books like Kitaab Al-Tawheed from Saheeh Al-Bukhari and Aqeedah Al-Waasitiyyah by Sheikh Al-Islam Ibnu Taymiyyah explanation of Sheikh Muhammad Khaleel Harras.

She also has read upon me many books in Aqeedah and Methodology with the explanation of Scholars from Ahlus Sunnah wa Al-Jamaa’ ah behind the veil with the presence of my wife and son’s wife, and I saw from her love and devotion for this study and then correct understanding of the books she read upon me. From the books she read upon me are: Explanation of Haaiyah Poetry, Explanation of Fatwa Al-Hamawiyyah by Ibnu Taymiyyah explanation of Quratul-Uyoon Al-Muwahideen and foundation of the sunnah and exemplary principles concerning the beautiful names and attributes of Allah.

And it has proceeded that she has presented to me the organisation of the establishment of the Institute and I have reviewed all from the affairs of the administration department and the curriculum and the administration of the student of affairs so this Institute insha-allah can be an Institute of goodness established upon the Quran and Sunnah with the understanding of the pious predecessors.

And I witness for her that truly she has comprehended from the affairs of the religion; the principles, the Islamic Creed and the methodology and conduct.

And may His peace and blessings be upon Muhammad and his family and his companions.

What the Scholars said about learning the Qur'aan.

The noble scholar Shaikh Ibn Taymiyyah:

"As for seeking to memorize the Qur'an then this is to be given preference over many of the things that the people consider to be knowledge, but are -in reality - either totally useless, or having little benefit. It is also to be given precedence in learning especially by those who wish to acquire knowledge of the Deen, its principles and its particulars. Since what is prescribed for such a person at this time is that he should begin by memorizing the Qur'aan, as it is the foundation of the branches of knowledge of the deen. This is contrary to what is done by many of the people on innovation, in that one of them will preoccupy himself with superfluous parts of knowledge; such as kalaam (rhetorical speech) and argumentation; or very rare matters of differences; and blind following, which there is no need for; or very strange and rare ahaadeeth which are not established, nor of benefit; and many discussions do not establish proofs. And he abandons memorizing the Qur'aan which is more important than all of this."

Fataawaa al-Kubra (2/54-55).

The noble scholar Shaikh Muhamamd Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen said in the Book of Knowledge:

-May Allah have mercy upon Him-

“The Noble Qur’aan: It is indeed obligatory upon the student of knowledge to be keen on it, by reciting it and memorising it and understanding it and acting upon it,  for the Qur’aan is Allah’s strong  rope,  and it is the foundation of all sciences, and the Salaf used to be completely keen on the Qur’aan; it is mentioned about them some strange thing about their keenness on the Qur’aan; you will find one of them memorise the (whole)Qur’aan and he is seven years of age and some of them memorised the Quran in less than a month and in this is proof of the keenness of the Salaf –may Allah be pleased with them- on the Qur’aan.

So it is obligatory upon the student of knowledge to be keen on it (the Qur’aan) and memorising it upon one of the teachers, because the Qur’aan is taken by the way of التلقي  (Meaning not self taught; learning directly from a teacher; the student recites to the teacher and the teacher corrects the student’s mistakes.)

And from (the matters) (one) is saddened for is that you will find some of the students of knowledge do not memorise the Qur’aan, actually some of them do not even recite the Qur’aan well, and this is a big defect in the method of seeking knowledge.

For this reason I repeat that it is obligatory upon the student of knowledge to be keen on memorising the Quran and acting upon it and calling to it and understanding it according to the understanding of the pious predecessors.”

Q: How can we combine between memorizing the Noble Qur’an and seeking
knowledge?

A: Start with the Qur’an, reading it and perfecting its recitation. If you accomplish
this –may Allah aid you in seeking knowledge- this is a great bounty from Allah upon
you. The Qur’an will be ease for the one who (sincerely) wants it, for verily, Allah

the Most High says,

“And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember,
then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)?” [Al-Qamar: 17]

The Qur’an is the key to every (Islaamic) science. Your perfection of its recitation
and memorizing it will open up for you areas of knowledge that only Allah knows
(best to what extent will benefit you).

The noble Scholar Shaikh Al-Baani said:

The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said:

"The Best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it"

The Scholar Al-Baani (may Allah have mercy upon him said)

And in this Hadeeth is: a direction into learning The Quran, and that the best knowledge that a person can learn is learning the Quran.

So how wishful it is that the students of knowledge  would realize that. Because in it, is great benefit.

And fom the calamities that have hit our era is that you find many of the callers or the beginners amongst the students of knowledge going into giving fatwa's (Islamic verdicts) and answering questions of people; while he hasn't even made good his recitation of Suratul Faatiha from its proper recitation...'

Up to where he said..

'..so advice to myself and then to them is that; the best of what a student of knowledge begins on is memorising The Quran'

An-Nawawi records in his book, Riyad us-Saliheen:

Abu Umamah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لِأَصْحَابِهِ

Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for its reciters.

Source: Sahih Muslim

An-Nawwas ibn Sam’an reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

يُؤْتَى بِالْقُرْآنِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَأَهْلِهِ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ بِهِ تَقَدَّمُهُمْ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ وَآلِ عِمْرَانَ

The Quran and its people who acted upon it will be brought forth on the Day of Resurrection, preceded by Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Ali Imran.

Source: Sahih Muslim

Uthman bin Affan reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ

The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.

Source: Sahih Bukhari

Aisha reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَهُوَ حَافِظٌ لَهُ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَةِ وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ يَتَعَاهَدُهُ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ شَدِيدٌ فَلَهُ أَجْرَانِ

The example of those who recite the Quran and memorize it is that of one who is with the ‘righteous and noble scribes’ (80:15); and the example of one who recites the Quran with great difficulty is that of one who receives a double reward.

Source: Sahih Bukhari

Abu Musa Al-Ashari reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

The example of a believer who recites the Quran is that of a citrus fruit which tastes good and smells good; and one who does not recite the Quran is like a date which tastes good but has no smell. The example of a wicked person who recites the Quran is that of basil which smells good but tastes bitter; and a wicked person who does not recite the Quran is that of a vine which tastes bitter and has no smell.

Source: Sahih Bukhari

Umar ibn Al-Khattab reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَرْفَعُ بِهَذَا الْكِتَابِ أَقْوَامًا وَيَضَعُ بِهِ آخَرِينَ

Verily, Allah raises the status of a people with this Book and he humiliates others.

Source: Sahih Muslim

Abdullah ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

لَا حَسَدَ إِلَّا عَلَى اثْنَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ هَذَا الْكِتَابَ فَقَامَ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَآنَاءَ النَّهَارِ وَرَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالًا فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَآنَاءَ النَّهَارِ

There is no envy except in two cases: a man whom Allah has given this Book so he stands to recite it during the day and night, and a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it during the day and night.

Source: Sahih Bukhari

Al-Bara reported: A man was reciting the chapter of the cave (surah al-kahf) and there was a horse tied with two ropes at his side, a cloud overshadowed him, and it came nearer and nearer as his horse became frightened of it. He went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the morning and mentioned that to him. The Prophet said:

Continue reciting. Verily, that was tranquility which came down for the recitation of the Quran.

Source: Sahih Muslim

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا لَا أَقُولُ الم حَرْفٌ وَلَكِنْ أَلِفٌ حَرْفٌ وَلَامٌ حَرْفٌ وَمِيمٌ حَرْفٌ

Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one good deed as ten good deeds like it. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Meem is one letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter.

Source: Sunan At-Tirmidhi

Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

إِنَّ الَّذِي لَيْسَ فِي جَوْفِهِ شَيْءٌ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ كَالْبَيْتِ الْخَرِبِ

Verily, one who does not memorize anything from the Quran is like a ruined house.

Source: Sunan At-Tirmidhi / Grade: Sahih

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

يُقَالُ لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَتَكَ عِنْدَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَأُ بِهَا

It will be said to the companion of the Quran: Recite and ascend as you recited in the world, for verily, your rank is determined by the last verse you recite.
